Whitby drivers should allow extra travel time on Consumers Drive as road rehabilitation brings lane restrictions and a temporary closure of the westbound Highway 401 off-ramp at Brock Street, according to a Region of Durham notice.

The lane restrictions cover Consumers Drive from Brock Street to a point 60 metres east of Sunray Street. The region says the work is needed to safely carry out road rehabilitation and paving.

Daytime curb and sidewalk replacement is scheduled to continue until October 15. Overnight paving is scheduled from October 15 to 31, although unfavourable weather could change the work schedule.

The westbound Highway 401 off-ramp at Brock Street will close while crews pave the section of Consumers Drive between Brock Street and the highway interchange. The notice ties the ramp closure to paving on that section, rather than the full duration of the road work.

Bus routes and stops will remain open throughout the project, according to the region. Drivers using Consumers Drive should nevertheless expect delays and build extra time into their trips.

The region is asking motorists to proceed cautiously around the work to help protect pedestrians, cyclists and crews. It acknowledges the disruption and says it will work to finish the project as quickly and efficiently as possible.
