Commuters who rely on the Lakeshore West GO line face a significantly changed trip this weekend as Metrolinx carries out major track upgrades, with a key stretch of the route shut down entirely.

Metrolinx says its Lakeshore West line rail service will be temporarily modified this weekend, and no GO trains will run between Aldershot GO and Oakville GO.

What changes riders can expect

According to Metrolinx, GO trains will operate on two shortened segments: between Niagara Falls GO and Aldershot GO, and between Oakville GO and Union Station.

Regularly scheduled trains that begin and end at Confederation GO and West Harbour GO will not run. There will also be no GO Transit service at Appleby GO or Bronte GO.

To keep riders moving, GO buses will run between West Harbour, Aldershot and Oakville GO to connect with train service.

Travelling toward Hamilton

Riders heading toward Hamilton are being advised to expect a 15 to 25-minute connection time when transferring from replacement bus trips to regular route 18 bus trips at Aldershot GO.

Metrolinx says commuters can also take the route 18E bus from Aldershot GO roughly 30 minutes earlier or later than the usual route 18 trips.

Friday and Monday adjustments

The transit agency says some late-evening service adjustments will also take effect this Friday before the weekend work begins.

Once the weekend is over, train arrival and departure times will be slightly adjusted on Monday, with trains arriving and leaving up to five minutes earlier or later than regularly scheduled.

Metrolinx also notes that, due to ongoing track conditions between Niagara Falls GO and Confederation GO, trains are required to operate at a reduced speed through that section.
