Commuters in Toronto's west end will face shortened subway service for the rest of this week, as the TTC closes a stretch of Line 2 each night for planned track work.

Subway trains will stop running between Kipling and Jane stations at 11:59 p.m. nightly from Tuesday, October 13 through Friday, October 16, according to a TTC service advisory. Regular service picks up again each morning at about 6 a.m.

The closure affects the westernmost portion of Line 2, which runs through Etobicoke — a section many GTA riders use to connect with GO Transit and MiWay buses at Kipling Station.

Shuttle buses will operate between the closed stations while the subway is out of service, and TTC staff will be on hand to help customers. Wheel-Trans vehicles will be available on request for any rider who needs assistance during the disruptions.

Riders who use Royal York Station should note one additional change: the Grenview entrance will be closed for the duration of the work.

Even with trains not running overnight, every subway station along the affected stretch will stay open so customers can buy or load PRESTO cards and tickets, or connect to surface bus routes.

The TTC said it completes most of its subway maintenance at the end of nightly service, but early closures and weekend shutdowns remain necessary to finish state-of-good-repair work on the aging line.

For riders who rely on elevators and escalators, the commission runs a lift line with real-time outage information. Customers can call 416-539-5438 to confirm the status of accessibility equipment anywhere in the system.

The TTC is also encouraging riders to check for updates before travelling. Up-to-the-minute service information is posted through the @ttcnotices account on X, the MyTTC e-Services subscription service, and the Live Service Alerts page on ttc.ca.

The nightly closures wrap up Friday, with normal Line 2 service expected to be in place across the Kipling-to-Jane section heading into the weekend.
