Pickering drivers and pedestrians can expect a new set of traffic lights at the intersection of Brock Road (Regional Road 1) and Usman Road, with the signals anticipated to be up and running by the end of the year.

The work is underway now and will continue until December 2026, according to a Region of Durham notice. The project adds a controlled intersection for both motorists and pedestrians crossing the roadway.

The Region says the new signals are aimed at improving safety for pedestrians and motorists, and form part of its commitment to Vision Zero, a long-term plan designed to create a transportation system with no lives lost or serious injuries on Durham's roadways. More information about the plan is available at Durham.ca/VisionZero.

Construction at a busy Regional Road 1 intersection is likely to be felt by commuters and local residents who travel through the area regularly, particularly during peak hours. The Region acknowledges the work may be disruptive and says it will make every effort to finish the job as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Drivers are being asked to exercise caution around the work zone for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and construction crews while the installation continues.
