Toronto FC pulled off a stunning late comeback on Saturday afternoon, scoring twice in stoppage time to beat arch-rivals CF Montréal 2-1 in the latest edition of the 401 Derby at BMO Field.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the final minutes, the Reds drew level through substitute Lewis Morgan in the 93rd minute, when the Scottish forward cushioned a left-footed volley past goalkeeper Sébastien Breza from Niklas Dorsch's first-time cross. The goal was Morgan's first for the club since joining Toronto FC last month, according to Toronto FC's match recap.

Just two minutes later, the turnaround was complete. A sweeping team move saw Richie Laryea release Theo Corbeanu down the right flank, and the winger's low cross was swept home by fellow substitute Djordje Mihailovic in front of the South End supporters to make it 2-1.

The two goals arrived 116 seconds apart, extending Toronto FC's unbeaten run against CF Montréal to six consecutive MLS regular season meetings, with four wins and two draws dating back to May 18, 2024.

Injury forces early goalkeeper change

Toronto FC was forced into an early substitution in goal, with Luka Gavran replaced by William Yarbrough in the 23rd minute due to an injury. Making his club debut, the Mexican-American goalkeeper kept the match scoreless with a key save to deny Alexis Sánchez from distance in the 36th minute.

The hosts had started brightly, forcing Breza into a pair of quick saves in the 11th minute to deny Dániel Sallói and Matheus Pereira. But CF Montréal struck first seven minutes into the second half, when Daniel Ríos tucked home the rebound after Yarbrough saved Matty Longstaff's effort in the 52nd minute.

Mihailovic, returning from injury, came off the bench in the 61st minute to replace Jonathan Osorio and make his first appearance for the club since September 5. His 95th-minute winner marked his eighth goal contribution of the 2026 MLS season, while Laryea recorded his eighth assist and Corbeanu his sixth on the decisive play.

Where the clubs stand

The win lifts Toronto FC to a record of 7 wins, 10 losses and 11 draws, good for 32 points, snapping a run without a victory. CF Montréal, now 6-16-6 with 24 points, suffered a heartbreaking defeat after leading for much of the second half.

Head Coach Robin Fraser made three changes from the side that started against Nashville SC two weeks earlier, with Richie Laryea, Benjamín Kuscevic and Alonso Coello coming into the lineup in place of Jackson Gilman, Zane Monlouis and Lewis Morgan.

Toronto FC returns to action quickly, hosting Orlando City SC in midweek MLS play on Wednesday, October 14, at BMO Field. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, with the match broadcast globally in English and Spanish on Apple TV and on TSN4 in Canada.
