Riders along the 506/306 Carlton route face three nights of detours this week as the TTC carries out rail grinding on the line.

The work runs nightly from Oct. 13 to 15, 2026, between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., according to a TTC service advisory. During those hours, 506/306 Carlton streetcars will divert via Bay Street, Dundas Street West/East, Broadview Avenue, Queen Street East and Coxwell Avenue.

Replacement service will run in two branches. 506/306 Carlton replacement buses will operate between Coxwell Station and Jarvis and Carlton streets. Meanwhile, 506B/306B Carlton buses will run between Spadina Station and Gerrard Street East and Broadview Avenue.

Where the buses will go

Eastbound, the 506B/306B buses will leave Spadina Avenue, travel east along College and Carlton streets, turn south on Parliament Street and continue east on Gerrard Street East to Broadview Avenue.

Westbound, the buses will run from Broadview Avenue west on Gerrard Street East, north on Parliament Street, west on Carlton Street, north on Yonge Street, west on Wellesley Street West, south on Bay Street and then west on College Street back to Spadina Avenue.

Boarding locations

The TTC is advising riders to take note of temporary boarding spots during the diversion.

Eastbound 506B/306B buses will pick up passengers on the west side of Spadina Avenue, north of College Street. Westbound streetcars will board on the north side of College Street, east of Spadina Avenue.

Westbound 506/306 buses will load on the west side of Broadview Avenue, north of lower Gerrard Street East. Eastbound streetcars will board on the east side of Broadview Avenue, north of lower Gerrard Street East.

Transferring between routes

Customers travelling east of Broadview Avenue or west of Jarvis Street can transfer between the 506/306 replacement buses and the 506B/306B buses in the area of Gerrard Street East and Sackville Avenue.

At that transfer point, westbound 506B/306B buses will board on the north side of Gerrard Street East, east of Sackville Street. Eastbound 506/306 buses will board on the south side of Gerrard Street East, west of Sackville Street.

Normal streetcar service is expected to resume each morning once the overnight work wraps up at 4 a.m.
