The TTC wrapped up a round of complex repair and modernization work on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth over the Thanksgiving long weekend, including the replacement of a structural beam on the Prince Edward (Bloor) Viaduct.

Subway service was suspended between Kipling and Jane stations, and between St George and Broadview stations, while crews carried out the state-of-good-repair work, according to a TTC news release.

The weekend's centrepiece was the replacement of one beam and two structural support bearings on the viaduct. Once crews opened up the structure, they discovered one of the concrete pads holding the beam in place had deteriorated and also needed to be replaced.

That added an unexpected complication. The TTC said the work was difficult because crews had limited visual access and had to reach the repair area through a small hatch, and the fresh concrete needed time to cure before service could resume.

"The TTC thanks customers for their patience while this additional work was completed and is grateful to staff who worked extended hours to help restore service as quickly as possible," the release said.

The transit agency said four similar beams have been replaced on the structure so far this year, with one more scheduled before the end of 2026.

The release said additional work was completed over the weekend but did not provide details of those projects.

The TTC described the effort as part of its ongoing investment in maintaining and modernizing one of North America's busiest subway systems. The agency says track renewal projects give riders a smoother trip, cut down on infrastructure-related delays, and improve long-term safety and service reliability.

For riders planning trips on Line 2, the TTC says the most current service information is posted on its @TTCNotices account on X and through its eAlerts subscription service. Customers can also check the Transit app for real-time journey planning and alternate route options.
