Line 2 closed between Kipling and Jane all weekend
TTC riders heading out for Thanksgiving weekend face scheduled subway closures, a bus diversion in Scarborough and a holiday schedule on Monday, and the transit agency is asking customers to plan ahead.
Shuttle buses will replace trains on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth between Kipling and Jane stations from midnight on Friday, Oct. 9 until 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, while crews complete infrastructure upgrades between Islington and Royal York stations, according to the TTC.
The work includes installing new communications and signal equipment, upgrading the electrical connections that supply power to trains, and replacing power cables at Royal York Station. Crews will also add CCTV camera cabling on storage tracks near Kipling Station to improve monitoring of trains when they are not in service.
The TTC said completing the work will strengthen the reliability of the subway's power, signal and communications systems and help reduce the risk of service disruptions. Staff will be on hand to assist customers, and Wheel-Trans service will be available on request.
The Grenview entrance at Royal York Station will be closed. All other stations in the affected stretch will stay open so riders can load PRESTO cards, buy PRESTO Tickets and connect to surface routes.
Late Monday opening between St George and Broadview
Subway service on another section of Line 2, between St George and Broadview stations, will be replaced by shuttle buses until 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, due to beam inspection and replacement along the Prince Edward Viaduct.
The TTC said the improvements are meant to ensure a smoother ride and maintain the safety and long-term reliability of the viaduct. As with the west-end closure, staff will be available to help customers and Wheel-Trans service can be requested.
Bay and Sherbourne stations will be closed during the work, along with the Yonge St. entrance to Line 2 at Bloor-Yonge Station. All other stations will remain open for fare purchases and surface connections.
While most subway maintenance is done overnight after service ends, the TTC noted it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and state-of-good-repair work.
Scarborough diversion and Thanksgiving Day schedule
In Scarborough, 12 Kingston Road buses will divert via Markham Rd., Eglinton Ave. E and Kingston Rd. from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, and from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, during the Scarborough Street Festival.
On Monday, Oct. 12, the TTC will run holiday service for Thanksgiving Day. All routes will operate on a Sunday schedule but will start earlier, at approximately 6 a.m. Routes that do not normally run on Sundays will not operate at all that day.
The TTC encourages riders to check its website for route details and holiday service information, follow @TTCNotices on X, sign up for eAlerts, or use the Transit app to plan trips in real time.
